Pieter Brueghel der Jüngere

In the footsteps of his father

Pieter Brueghel the Younger was a Flemish painter who lived in the 16th and 17th century. He was born on May 23, 1564, in Brussels, Belgium. He was the son of the famous painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder. At the age of 17, Pieter Brueghel the Younger became a pupil of his father and received a thorough education in art. He specialized in landscape painting and became well known for his ability to faithfully copy and continued his father's works. Many of his paintings were reproductions of the well-known works of his father. Brueghel the Younger painted mainly rural scenes, village festivals, farmers' markets and peasant life. His works were characterized by detailed depictions and vivid colors. He was a master of composition and mastered the perspective and proportions in his paintings. Throughout his career, Brueghel the Younger made hundreds of copies and variations of his father's works. He also created his own originals and often added figures or small details to enliven the scenery. His works were in great demand and were collected throughout Europe. Pieter Brueghel the Younger died in Antwerp on October 10, 1638, Belgium. Although he did not achieve the same recognition as his father he nevertheless left behind a significant artistic legacy. His works can be seen today in many prestigious museums and private collections worldwide
