Detail shot taken in the Upper Antelope Canyon ... Some practical information about the photographer's pass (not valid anymore) for those who intend to visit the Antelope Canyon for the first time. 4 years ago I visited the lower Antelope Canyon with a simple photographer's pass. Only condition was to have a tripod to proof that you were a photographer ;-) I spend 3 hours on my own in the lower Canyon. The best light is between 2pm and 5pm. The most beautiful light is in the months September and October because the sun is lower than in the spring and summer. This year, I revisited the lower Canyon and was very disappointed that there was no possibility anymore to obtain a photographer's pass. There is no more opportunity to visit the lower Canyon on your own anymore neather. We were able to book a guided "photographer's tour" (about two hours). I never visited the upper Antelope Canyon and decided to book a tour there too. No "photographer's tour" available. They were all booked for months ahead. I took a simple guided tour to discover them. The upper Antelope Canyon is so much more crowded that the lower Canyon. Therefore, it is much more difficult to take decent shots. Everybody wants to see the upper Canyon, only a few are interested in the lower Canyon. The lower Canyon is much more impressive and beautiful than the upper Canyon, imho. You just need to be in good shape : strenious and tight !!! Some essential tips for your visit : 1. Don't miss the lower Antelope Canyon, less crowded and more beautiful than the upper Canyon. Photographer's tours always available. 2. If you want a photographer's tour in the upper Antelope Canyon, book it months before your visit. 3. Best time of the day for the lower Antelope Canyon is between 2pm and 4pm 4. Best time of the day for the upper Antelope Canyon is between 11am and 1pm 5. Best time of the year is in September-October because of the low light
