RENDEZVOUS It was at the year of 2007. I was visiting Malaysia at that time. This photo was made at Butterfly Park of Malaysia. The park reside at Penang Island. One of the famous Butterfly Park in Asian region. We can reach Penang Island by driving a car ca.4 hours from the capitol city of Malaysia called Kuala Lumpur. Actually, It was not on my planning to take this kind of photo, I was planning to take a Macro Photo, that is why if you read on my further description below my Nikon Micro Lens 105mm F2.8 was attached already to my brand new Nikon D300. For sure it was a lovely day on April the 4th 2007. The sun was shining with smile and the sky was clear blue even though Penang Island humidity was a bit too much at that time. The temperature was something around 36+ degrees Celsius if I am not mistaken. It was a long queuing before I have got my entrance ticket to the park. Seeing a lots of visitor I have decided to leave all my gear at the car. So I went into the park with my D300 and my Macro lens only. Well, many shots were made but none of them was fulfilled what I had in mind. So I took a break and having some cold drinks from the cafeteria, and look around, trying to figure out what next!! Suddenly my eyes found it... I was surprised seeing so many butterflies at one place. It looks like to me as they were having such a reunion. The best thing is, nobody has noticed except, one guy with a camera sat near by the place. But as I noticed he was sleeping with a camera in his hand. My eyes was looking to the Rendezvous, as they were having lunch together. Seems to me pineapples with honey was on the menu of that day. I start to look on my view finder find the composition, then setting up my metering with Aperture F14 to get details and reduce my Exposure to 1/30s and pump up the ISO to 640. My White Balance was in Auto mode. So I took the shoot (ca.10.30 PM Locale Time GMT+7). Examine the result on my camera display, Immediately, I was satisfied with the Exposure, ISO and Aperture. Big smile on my face. As I was planning to take another shot from different angle, unfortunately, the butterflies were gone already. So I enjoyed the view on my D300 display, and as I noticed, that one sad face was looking to my display too!! Yep!! "Mr. Sleeping Guy" was awake and look so disappointed to my display, as he explained to me later on, that he was waiting for the moment to come, but unfortunately after long time waiting, he felt in sleep. My shutter sound woke him up as at the same time, he saw all the butterflies were gone. As the moment was gone too for him. The Post production was not so complicated. Using Photoshop CS6, I open my NEF RAW File and adjust the White balance on camera raw. Then playing around a bit with Curves and Selective color especially on the black areas. The finishing was reducing the saturation and sharpening the image with Unsharp mask filter on my CS6. so, that's it folks, I do hope you enjoy my long story and explanations.
