Coal by Thomas T. McCleave

This Picture is available as Photo Print, Canvas on Stretcher, Framed Picture, Glass Print and Wall Paper.

Coal - Coal is in the daily controversies here in the Pacific Northwest. We are a hub, a way point in moving coal from the mid-west and eastern states, onto China and Asia. We ask ourselves, "what is more important, energy and jobs or the environmental issues and transportation risks?" In these parts, half of us see jobs (blue collar jobs that are rapidly disappearing in the USA) while the other half see's dirty pollution and uneven risk management of transporting millions of tons of coal. This shot I took an a bright sunny day. I over exposed about 1EV and adjusted the contrast sliders and brightness sliders to make this quasi snowy look. I thought this gave a contrast between dirty coal and a clean looking track area. I love watching trains, and these vantage points (over crossing) I find particularly interesting. They create interesting leading lines, and an almost surreal view of something familiar.
