All about Famous art

What is a work of art?

A work of art is the result of artistic creation. In the visual arts, artists use their creativity to create paintings, drawings, sculptures and the like. The finished products are called works of art. Some people define the word artwork by the quality (or degree of difficulty) of the product, however, this is not always objective and can be perceived differently by everyone, so every artist can call their work a work of art.

Which works of art (paintings) should you know?

Probably the most famous painting of all time is the "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci, which he painted between 1503 and 1506 during the Renaissance period. She fascinates with her unique painting technique and her mysterious smile. "The Last Supper" is another very famous work of art by da Vinci. It was created between 1494 and 1498 and is a huge mural in which the central perspective was perfectly realised.
The artwork "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" by Jan Vermeer achieved its fame through the impressive natural realistic depiction. The painting was painted in 1665 and is a unique work of art.
"The Birth of Venus" is one of the oldest famous works of art. Sandro Botticelli painted it in 1486 and caused not only enthusiasm. "The Birth of Venus" was virtually the first nude painting and was actually supposed to be burned because of its permissive depiction. Before it was burned, the painting disappeared and so it can still be admired today.
Vincent van Gogh painted some famous works of art. His work "The Starry Night"is one of the most famous works of art there is. "The Starry Night" is painted in an impressive way with vivid brushstrokes and swirls of colour. Van Gogh painted the picture in 1889 when he was self-confined to an asylum. Some art critics think that the swirls in the painting reflect the artist's inner confusion.
"The Kiss" is one of the most important works of Art Nouveau and the most famous work of art by Gustav Klimt. The painting was created in 1908 and captivates with its gold colour.
The artwork "Guernica" by Pablo Picasso was created in response to the air raid that destroyed the Spanish city of Guernica in 1937. It was the first anti-war painting and is a black and white depiction of "destroyed life".
Claude Monet painted some of the most famous Impressionist paintings. His "Water Lilies"are best known for their delicate brushstrokes and stunning depiction of the interplay between light and water.
"The Creation of Adam" is a detail of a ceiling painting by Michelangelo Buonarroti and was painted between 1508 and 1512. Especially the detailed depiction of the hands with the outstretched fingers, which are only a breath away from each other, fascinates and touches the viewer.
The painting "The Permanence of Memory" ("Time Running Out") is the most famous painting by the famous artist Salvador Dalí. The work of art belongs to Surrealism and was created in 1931. "The permanence of memory" can be interpreted in very different ways and raises mysteries.
Probably the best-known lost painting is "The Tower of the Blue Horses" by Franz Marc. The artwork was painted in 1916 in the expressionist style and expresses the interconnectedness between nature and the universe. "The Tower of the Blue Horses" has been lost since the end of the Second World War and can only be admired in reproductions.
The "Field Hare" is a work of art by Albrecht Dürer. The picture is a watercolour and was painted in 1502. It shows a hare in a sitting position. The background is an "empty" space, which, however, appears very natural. The artwork is characterised by its lifelike depiction and its three-dimensional effect.
