Malaïka Weber
- Lives (lived) in Switzerland
I was born in Montreux, in Switzerland from a Swiss mother and a Sudanese father.
To pay my studies in dance (jazz, contemporary, classical Indian dance, etc),
I worked as a photomodel in the field of fashion and illustration.
This allowed me to be in contact with the world of photography since the 80s.
At the age of 22, I had the chance to receive an old film camera and two goals by Mr. Paul Cornaz,
a Swiss photographer with whom I worked on a series of black and white portraits.
With great respect and kindness, he supported and encouraged my passion for image.
He also taught me the basics of photography. My adventure between dance and photography continued throughout my life.
Dice 1988 to complete my training in dance and photography, I made many trips and long stays
in India, Haiti, Australia, Japan, Senegal. The encounter with other cultures has taught me to understand,
love and photograph the world's diversity.
In 2005 as a result for successful multi-year collaboration with photographer Roger Plaschy,
I made a book about dance : Being in a body of a dancing body Trace Editions Hurter, Geneva.
This book was the culmination of my career as photo-model.
Since 2008, via the Web, I have started to show my own work as a photographer.
In June 2013, I left for a trip a year to devote all my time to photography.
This journey took me alone to the United States, Japan, Dubai, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam aone.
The humanistic, artistic and sometimes conceptual style of my photography has been recognized
in different competitions and publications.
The art works of the artist are dominated by the colors gray.
