When I saw this tunnel of bamboo at India's Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, I wanted to shoot a tiger in this tunnel, ideally post-monsoon when the bamboo would be green. On this occasion we were on this jeep track and encountered a few vehicles who said they were watching a sub-adult tiger on the jeep track. However, owing to a bend on the jeep track we could not see the tiger. As luck would have it, the tiger then got up and walked around the vehicles and was now just behind us. I selected a lower focusing point and waited until it was in the centre of the track which is when I took this image. To me this image represents the very bleak future of the tiger in India. Although conservation is working, lack of habitat due to human pressure means an increasing number of tigers are confined to smaller spaces. Since tigers are territorial the younger tigers get pushed to the periphery of protected areas which leads to man-animal conflict and human impatience with the entire conservation effort. The next season this particular track was closed to tourist vehicles.
