This is my project about unusual ceremony called IMARIKA which is about breaking of spells and heeling disabilities, sorting out marriage, business and life issues and…... Photos taken in Kaloleni village which is in Mombasa, Kenya. The ceremony is a mixture of African culture, superstitious, Cristian belief and is similar to Exorcism but with big different. The ceremony is always done in the church. They always start with praying, preaching and lastly after the pastor is done with preaching, they sing songs and dance. During that moment, some members of the church are filled with the holy spirit, others speaking in tongues and others rolling on the ground. Others dug the ground hitting themselves or even attacking each other. The Belief is very strong and unfortunately they use it as an alternative for solving their issues in normal way. For example instead of getting help for a patient from a doctor they participate in IMARIKA and hope to get healed. 13 years old girl is extremely sick and weak , she couldn’t eat and walk .Parents are disappointed with doctors and also couldn’t afford more , they brought her to ceremony and hope she gets healed.
