My Best Friend by Brett Joslin

This is a single image from a series of two. The image was taken in the tall grass in my back yard. Settings: ISO 4000 F4.0 and 1/1250 shutter. This was taken at dusk so wanted to have a mix of warm and cool tones. I wanted to use the shallow depth of field to have bokeh in the background. I was inspired by a few nature photographers use of color and dark processing. By using a short depth of field only allowed a small amount of grass to be in focus which added to the image. I dodged the sharp grass to stand out which also added to the dreamy look. The reason why I chose this image was because my dog has a strong bold look. Between his posture, the Gaussian blur, the out of focus grass between us, and use of warm and cold tones it gives the image a soft and strong feeling.
