There is a place in Cendrawasih Bay in West Papua, Indonesia where young male Whale Sharks gather in small groups of 3-5 individuals. Their ages range from mere babies to young adults. Once these males reach sexual maturity they leave and become pelagic. We spent two days swimming with these magnificent gentile giants. This is an 18 foot long "baby". They are very curious and often made close passes to look us over. However, ater on in this dive this "baby" actually approached me without any provocation, oriented itself head down and presented it's vulnerable belly to me to be rubbed. It was a truly magical moment.
